Mattress. A health tool…
The value of truly good sleep.
The sleeping function occupies almost 1/3 of our life. It is an inseparable part of our everyday life and its value for the proper functioningof the mind and body becomes immediately evident even after its first day of deprival. Other than fatigue, drowsiness, difficulty in concentration and in the performance of complex activities which appear from the first night of sleep deprival, the most severe and invisible are the effects on health of long term disorder either of the quality or quantity of sleep. Being a dynamic function which runs through stages (light, deep sleep and sleep of rapid ophthalmic movements) sleep needs the appropriate time to carry out its rejuvenating and reparative actions and in the meantime it needs the ideal environment which will allow its proper development.
The first mattress made by man.
The innate need of man to offer the appropriate environment to a function which imperceptibly equips him with the power and knowledge for his survival impelled him from the beginning of his existence, in search of a suitable space and ground for its performance. Man chose small, closed and dark spaces with soil ground which he covered up with soft, easy to press weed. In this way, nature and instinct created the first mattress.
The mattress becomes science.
In the years to follow, the need of restful sleep created an entire scientific field, mattress manufacturing. Main goal is for each body to rest on a mattress that offers the spnial cord the ability to have the ideal curving for each posture (side, face down, supine) which will prevent increased tension amongst the muscles that are attached to the spinal cord (back muscles) and the neck muscles. This means that in each sleeping position we choose, the ideal mattress would be the one that recognizes the resistance that has to be enforced in every area of the body which it comes into contact with. In this way it can hold the spinal cord in its proper curvature something which in its turn prevents muscular tension in each area. Such a mattress allows proper development of sleep preventing awakenings caused by pain that can be created from excessive or oppositely a sparing curl of the spinal cord. However, it is understood that this smart mattress which recognizes every time the tension that must be enforced in each area depending on the body type and body weight it receives…does not exist.
The mattress is a personal issue.
What does exist, however, is the capability of choosing the most possibly ideal mattress for one’s body type regardless of labels such as "anatomic" or "orthopedic". In this way, each person who buys a mattress has to encounter that they are not buying a rest tool but a health tool. This is the reason we suggest always choosing a mattress after having tested it and even in various sleeping positions. The same must apply for the sleep pillow. The materials from which they are made from should prevent the appearance of any skin discomfort-allergy.
Good sleep is health and worthy of offering to ourselves and to the people we love.
